Don't bother starting at the beginning with Austen's earlier, brighter works. Go straight to her sixth and final published novel—which admittedly made the fall reading list for its darker and more serious themes—is a story of old love and second chances, which makes it perfect for spring. And if you want to read Austen twice in one year, I'm certainly not going to . Meet the characters that live, work, dream, and love in the community of Deepwater Cove. April 6, I worked with L.S Heatherly for over 11 years preparing the manuscript for this book. I, having a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Psychology, want to quote (with his permission) Darryl House because his comments reflect precisely my opinion of the book: "THE LAST HUMAN SPRING is an absorbing, enlightening, and fascinating work.5/5(1).
While I enjoyed the book way more than I expected to, these rough edges made me wonder how much better it might have been if the author had found a more skilled editor to really polish it up.
With that missing polish this would have been a 5 star for me, but since it is missing and I can’t give partial stars, I give the Last Human a 4/5 rating/5(15). The Last Human is a strange one, though, and a bit of a misnomer until you get to the end and understand why it was called is an apocalypse story, in so much that the world has been destroyed by a virus, but it is really more of a story about the humanity that is either gained, lost, or maintained under such circumstances/5.
I strongly recommend that anyone who is a sci-fi fan read Oasis, the first book in the series The Last Humans by Dima Zales. The setting takes place in Oasis, the last hospitable place on Earth after its been destroyed by The Goo, a destructive technology that is duplicated from matter/5.
By ending his account in the spring, Thoreau points us toward the open future and the unlived potential of our own lives.
